The Royal or Yarmouth Hospital was instituted on 28 June 1838, the day of her Majesty's Coronation, & occupies a handsome white brick building in St George's Sq, finished in March 1840, at the cost of more than 1000. It has accommodation for 20 in patients. Of the latter, it relieves more than 700 yearly. The Rev H Mackenzie is President, & F R Reynolds esq, Vice President. Two physicians & four surgeons lend their aid gratuitously, & Mr Thomas S Rising is the House Surgeon & Apothecary.
