Comprises 28 parishes. Their average annual expenditure on the poor, during the 3 years preceding the formation of the Union, was 9157; but in 1838 it was only 6201, & in 1840, 7243. The expenditure for the half year ending Sept 1849 was 4625.The Workhouse, built in 1838, at the cost of 3600, has room for about 230 paupers. Mr Henry Hawkes is union clerk & supt.registrar; Mr Peter Paltridge & wife are master & matron of the Workhouse.
