Williton Workhouse and
Poor Law Union
Williton Union Workhouse was erected 1837-1840 from designs by G. Gilbert Scott and W. Bonython Moffatt, architects. It became Williton Hospital, and was finally closed in 1990. The building is due for refurbishmnet.
Williton Poor Law Union comprised the parishes of Bicknoller, Brompton Ralph, Carhampton, Clatworthy, Old Cleeve, Crowcombe, Culbone, Cutcombe, Dodington, Dunster, Elworthy, Holford, Kilton, Kilve, Lilstock, Luccombe, Luxborough, Minehead, Monksilver, Nettlecombe, Oare, Porlock, East Quantoxhead, West Quantoxhead, St Decuman's, Sampford Brett, Selworthy, Stogumber, Stogursey, Stoke Pero, Stringston, Timberscombe, Treborough, Williton, Withiel Florey, Withycombe and Wootton Courtney.
